Jean‑Clair Todibo played for Nice before he arrived at West Ham United. He could now return to Ligue 1 with a transfer to Marseille.
Ekrem Konur posted on X: "Marseille are negotiating with West Ham for Jean‑Clair Todibo, ready to offer a deal until 2031. After relegation, Todibo is seen as a Napoli alternative. He does not want to play in the Championship. AS Roma and Juventus remain interested, both preferring a loan formula."
Todibo has had a disappointing couple of seasons at West Ham. The latter stages of the last campaign were particularly poor. He was sent off in a 3-2 defeat to Chelsea, which led to a three-match ban.
Then he was substituted after just 26 minutes against Newcastle United. This led to a falling out with Nuno Espirito Santo, and he did not play in West Ham's final game of the season against Leeds United.
Jean‑Clair Todibo has no future at West Ham under Nuno
Following West Ham's relegation, Todibo is seen as a bad egg that the club should be looking to sell. He has suitors from some top clubs, which is surprising given his form for West Ham. However, he does have some other big clubs on his CV, including Barcelona, Schalke 04 and Benfica. The defender also has two caps for France, but they came back in 2023.
Marseille is becoming a home for former West Ham players; they also have Nayef Aguerd and Emerson Palmieri on their books. Todibo played alongside both players in his first season at West Ham. Marseille finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season, which qualified them for the Europa League. It could be tasty if Todibo joins Marseille and plays against his former club Nice in the Derby de la Mediterranée.
Roma and Juventus are two other big clubs that would be tempting for Todibo to join. However, they are only looking at taking him on loan, which is not ideal for West Ham. It does not appear that Todibo would have a future at West Ham under Nuno, so a permanent transfer would be best for all parties.
The Frenchman has returned to pre-season training with West Ham. However, he has not featured in any of the club's pre-season games. This is a clear sign that he will be departing West Ham this summer. The Hammers will need to find a replacement for Todibo, especially as Dinos Mavropanos' future at the club is also uncertain.
