West Ham United have been involved in some great games in their history. Many would think of the FA Cup final of 2006, which was 3-3 against Liverpool before the Hammers lost on penalties. However, as that was a loss for West Ham, supporters of the club would choose other games as the East London side's greatest ever.
5. West Ham 5-4 Bradford City - Premier League - 2000
The main character in this match was Paolo Di Canio. The enigmatic Italian was frustrated at refereeing decisions with the Hammers 4-2 down that he sat down and demanded to be substituted. The Upton Park faithful then started singing his name, and he got back up with the determination to turn the game around.
West Ham were awarded a penalty which Di Canio wrestled the ball off of Frank Lampard for. Di Canio scored, and then Joe Cole equalised. Lampard then got the winner.
4. West Ham 2-0 1860 Munich - European Cup Winners' Cup final - 1965
A brace from Alan Sealey saw off 1860 Munich at Wembley in the 1965 European Cup Winners' Cup. In the West Ham team that day were Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters. Just a year later, all three won the World Cup with England.
3. West Ham 1-0 Arsenal FA Cup final - 1980
A Trevor Brooking header was enough to defeat Arsenal in the 1980 FA Cup final. This was the last time in which a team from outside of the top flight won the competition. The Hammers were a Second Division side at the time but would gain promotion the following season.
Paul Allen could have become the youngest player to score in an FA Cup final that year. However, he was brought down by Willie Young, with just the goalkeeper, Pat Jennings, to beat. Young was given just a yellow card, but it would be a red card in today's game.
2. Fiorentina 1-2 West Ham - Europa Conference League final - 2023
West Ham's major trophy drought since 1980 was ended when the club won the Europa Conference League 43 years later. This was a golden few years that the Hammers had in Europe under David Moyes.
Said Benrahma gave the Hammers the lead from the penalty spot. However, Giacomo Bonaventura equalised for Fiorentina. Then, in the 90th minute, Lucas Paqueta played the ball through to Jarrod Bowen, who netted the winner.
1. West Ham 3-2 Manchester United - Premier League - 2016
West Ham gave Upton Park the send-off it deserved by defeating Manchester United in dramatic style. Diafra Sakho had given the Hammers the lead, but then Anthony Martial scored a brace for the Red Devils.
Michail Antonio then equalised before Winston Reid got the late winner to ensure West Ham won the final game at their old stadium. Whilst West Ham fans struggled to get used to the London Stadium, many hark back to that great night as to what it meant to be a Hammers supporter.
