Carl Jenkinson impressed in his first spell on loan at West Ham United from Arsenal in the 2014/15 season. He played 32 times in the Premier League, whilst he did not score, he did make two assists. Sam Allardyce's side that campaign were a real threat from the full-back positions. Jenkinson was effective on the right flank, whilst Aaron Cresswell was a star left-back.
Whilst Allardyce departed at the end of that season, Jenkinson was loaned back to the Hammers for the following campaign. Under Slaven Bilic, Jenkinson had a mixed start to the Premier League season.
He had to go in goal after Adrian was sent off in a 2-1 loss to Leicester City at Upton Park. Jenkinson was then shown a red card in a 4-2 defeat to AFC Bournemouth in the following game. However, he did score in back-to-back matches against Sunderland and Crystal Palace. Unfortunately, his campaign was cut-short due to a knee injury, and he returned to the Gunners.
Jenkinson went on to feature sparingly for Arsenal, and he was sent on loan to Birmingham City before he signed for Nottingham Forest. The right-back then went on to play in Australia with Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets before returning to English soccer.
Carl Jenkinson is now plying his trade in the EFL
He signed for Bromley in 2024 and featured 11 times in League Two for them last season. Due to a hip injury, he has only recently returned to action. Jenkinson made a cameo against Crewe Alexandra at the end of January before playing 45 minutes last Saturday in a 0-0 draw with Harrogate Town.
Bromley are currently top of League Two, which is some achievement considering this is just their second season in the division. They were promoted from the National League via the playoffs in 2024.
Jenkinson is the biggest name in Bromley's roster, and his experience will be invaluable for the club even if he is lacking game time. They are managed by Andy Woodman, who is the best friend of former England manager Gareth Southgate.
As he is now 34, and he has lacked game time since he arrived at the club, it is unlikely that Bromley will extend his deal. His contract expires at the end of the campaign, but he could still play a key role in helping them to promotion to League One.
