It appeared that Daniel Kretinsky was to be the savior of West Ham United. However, the Czech billionaire could soon be aided by Amanda Staveley and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi.
Speaking to Spear's, Staveley said "We’ve looked at a lot of clubs, including Tottenham, but we are looking at clubs around the Premier League and the UK, Europe… We really want to be buying, going in and investing into a club again very soon." When pushed about West Ham, she said with a smile "Maybe. You don’t know."
Stavely has been linked with investing in West Ham recently and was spotted at the London Stadium. The business executive has extensive experience in soccer, having helped broker the takeovers of both Manchester City and Newcastle United.
Are the tides turning for West Ham?
She was very prominent at Newcastle with the Saudi consortium. They released the club from the unpopular owner, Mike Ashley, and turned the club into one that won the EFL Cup and competed in the Champions League. The Magpies did not have the success expected, but they did have to abide by the Premier League's profitability and sustainability regulations.
West Ham fans will be hoping she does the same and West Ham, and release the club from David Sullivan. It could be the perfect time for Staveley to step in. Sullivan has serious accusations against him and is hugely unpopular with West Ham fans. He is still a shareholder in the club but has stepped down as chairman. The value of West Ham is down following their relegation, but Staveley could help the Hammers get back to the Premier League.
A Staveley-Kretinsky ownership could work well. Kretinsky does not like to talk in public, whereas Staveley is very open. At Newcastle, she appeared to be someone who cared for her players and was interested in all aspects of the club, including the women's team.
