European club willing to sign struggling £30 million on-loan West Ham star
- Nayef Aguerd left West Ham to join Real Sociedad on a loan move in the transfer window.
- Europa League side Real Sociedad are willing to sign Aguerd from West Ham next year.
When West Ham decided to send struggling £30 million defender Nayef Aguerd on a loan-move to Real Sociedad, a large section of the Hammers fans were left unconvinced by the decision. Their surprise at a season long loan move stemmed from the fact that a few Ligue 1 teams had shown an interest in signing him on a permanent basis, still West Ham and Aguerd preferred a loan-move instead.
With Aguerd’s departure, West Ham had only three centre-back options in their squad, which doesn't provide more reliability and squad depth throughout the season. However, that decision seems to work out well now, and the Hammers could receive a significant transfer fee for the Morocco international next year.

After joining Europa League side Real Sociedad, Aguerd has gone strength to strength in La Liga helping Real Sociedad keep three clean-sheets. That includes the recent 1-0 win over high-flying La Liga side Girona, and Aguerd gave an impressive defensive performance against Atletico Madrid in a 1-1 draw as well.
The 28-year-old central defender has quickly become the defensive leader for Real Sociedad following the departure of UEFA Euro 2024 winner Robin Le Normand to Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window. Recently, VipDeportivo suggested that Aguerd's growing significance for Imanol Alguacil's side could see them entering into transfer negotiations with West Ham to sign Aguerd next year.
If that happens to be the case, West Ham can receive around £30 million transfer fee, which they paid to Ligue 1 side Rennes for securing his services in 2022. Further, the Hammers can sign Jean-Clair Todibo on a permanent basis next season with those transfer funds. Previously it was speculated that West Ham may have to sell a star player such as Kudus to complete Todibo's signing given that they brought nine new players in this transfer window.
Therefore, West Ham can continue assembling a brilliant squad in the upcoming seasons, and could become one of the best Premier League teams as well if they improve their results in the English top flight.
