Dylan Lawlor was linked with West Ham United over the summer. However, the move did not come to fruition. The Welsh centre-back is still reportedly on the Hammers' radar.
The journalist, Sebastien Vidal, posted on X (translated from French), "West Ham is keeping an eye on Dylan Lawlor. The 20-year-old Welsh center-back, who plays for Cardiff City, had piqued the Hammers' interest this summer. Cardiff had ultimately managed to hold onto him despite several suitors. A name to keep in mind for the next transfer windows."
Lawlor missed the start of the Championship campaign due to a knee injury. However, he just returned to make a substitute appearance against Charlton Athletic just before the international break. He has six caps for Wales, but was understandably not called up by Craig Bellamy for the current Nations League fixtures.
The defender was instrumental for Cardiff last season, helping them to promotion from League One. He has huge potential and has previously been linked with top sides including Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
West Ham could do with boosting their defensive options
West Ham have a solid centre-back partnership right now. Dinos Mavropanos is the current Hammer of the Year. He has made a few defensive mistakes this season, but has made amends by scoring multiple goals from set-pieces. The Hammers were lucky to keep hold of him as he was linked with a return to the Bundesliga over the summer.
Max Kilman looks back to his best after a difficult season for him in the Premier League. His confidence is back, and he has captained the Hammers in the EFL Cup this campaign. West Ham also have Morato on loan from Nottingham Forest. However, he has recently been deployed as a left-back.
Nuno Espírito Santo also has Ezra Mayers and Airidas Golambeckis, who are both part of the England Under-20 squad. They have the potential to be top defenders for the Hammers.
Over the summer, West Ham were linked with Axel Disasi. However, he was unlikely to join the Hammers permanently after relegation. He eventually went to Crystal Palace on loan. Ben Cabango was also mentioned, and he is Swansea City's captain and in the Wales squad.
Wout Faes of Leicester City joining was also rumoured to be on the cards on deadline day. However, he ended up staying with the Foxes. There was also talk of free-agent Adam Webster coming to West Ham. He had just left Brighton & Hove Albion and is still without a club. It would be better for West Ham to go for a younger option such as Lawlor.
