Crysencio Summerville has a big decision to make as to where to go following West Ham United's relegation. His teammate with the Netherlands, Donyell Malen, could convince him to join AS Roma ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.
According to La Roma 24 (translated from Italian, "the number one target (for Roma) is West Ham 's Summerville. The Dutchman will discuss, during these days of the pre-World Cup training camp, with Malen himself the possibility of choosing Roma over Tottenham."
Summerville would likely have already spoken to Malen about joining his club, Roma. The Netherlands face Algeria in a friendly tonight, which is a match where Summerville could make his debut. He would have already represented the Netherlands, but for the calf injury he picked up whilst playing for the Hammers.
Malen joined Roma initially on loan from Aston Villa in January, but that has now been made permanent. The center-forward scored 14 goals in 18 Serie A games for Roma, and would want to link up with Summerville at the club, too. The pair both have the same agent, which would no doubt help with negotiations.
West Ham fans would not want to see Summerville at Tottenham
Roma, who are managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, finished third in Serie A. Therefore, they qualified for the Champions League. If he were to join Tottenham, then he would not be playing in European competition next season.
The Italian side could do with signing a new left-winger as Stephan El Shaarawy is set to depart the club. The other left-winger they had last season was Bryan Zaragoza, but he was only on loan from Bayern Munich. Also, he made just four Serie A appearances.
The lure of staying in the Premier League and in London would be tempting for Summerville. Especially as he has a young daughter. However, West Ham fans would not want to see him playing for their bitter rivals.
Another option for Summerville is Olympique de Marseille. His future could depend on what happens with Mason Greenwood. The former Manchester United winger is currently with the French side, but has been linked with multiple clubs, including Roma.
Summerville was one of West Ham's best players last season. However, ultimately, he could not keep them in the Premier League. His statement on Instagram appeared to distance himself from the club. It read, "West Ham United is too big, too special, and too powerful to stay down." The fact that he did not use the word 'we' shows that he knows that he will be leaving this summer. Only time will tell where that will be.
