According to sources, West Ham is in talks with Man City about bringing in a new Director of Football. Can they make this appointment better than the last?

FootballInsider247.com released that West Ham United and David Moyes are in talks to bring in a new Director of Football. The potential hire is Rob Newman, who currently holds a scouting role for Manchester City and has been there since 2008.

The report says that the board has given Moyes the green light to bring in Newman if he can pull him away from his home of 13 years. Newman, a former Norwich City defender, has also worked in management at Southend United, Cambridge United, and Bournemouth.

Last month when the Gaffer finally put pen to paper and resigned with West Ham, he made it a point to make sure the future of recruitment and scouting was also getting lined up. Although everything is quiet at the moment, this is a massive step in the right direction for the Hammers, if done right.

West Ham’s last attempt at a Director of Football was flawed from the get-go and has honestly spoiled the thought of a new one for many fans and pundits alike. When Manuel Pellegrini was hired by the club a few years back and brought Husillos with him, there was hope. The hope that David Sullivan was no longer picking the talent, but that hope soon faded.

Since Pellegrini and Husillos were shown the exit door, the vast majority of their transfers have also left. Besides Lukasz Fabianski, Pablo Fornals, and Issa Diop, every other transfer has either left or has been riddled with speculation and could be on their way out.

If this rumor turns out, and David Moyes gets his wish, it would hopefully look different than last time, and the record reflects that. Although the Gaffer gets stick for being slow-moving and sometimes seems lost, he has done well in the market since coming back to the club.

That same thought would indeed transfer over into the mind of the new DOF. For starters, it would show intention. The Hammers intend to grow and progress, not fall back into the ways of their past with DS. Instead of hoping for agents to dictate the transfer process, it would give a proven talent spotter the reigns to bring in who is suitable for the club.
