Reports have emerged that Barcelona are ready to bid for West Ham star, Tomas Soucek. It is believed that the Spanish giants are planning a £26 million offer for the midfielder. This would cause concern at the London Stadium as the Czech midfielder does want to play at the highest level, and Barcelona would be hard to turn down.

West Ham bought Soucek from SK Slavia Prague last summer for £15 million after he had impressed in his initial loan stint. The midfielder has become one of the club’s star players this season, providing extra solidity to the defence as well as a flurry of goals. He really can do it all.

Soucek’s impact this season has helped the club surge up the Premier League, and they are now battling for a place in next season’s Champions League. A competition that, if qualified for, could see West Ham face up against Soucek’s suitors.

West Ham’s Tomas Soucek is attracting interest from Lionel Messi’s Barcelona, but fans shouldn’t be panicking just yet.

However, West Ham fans should not worry too much about interest from Barcelona. The Catalonian club is currently in turmoil. The club’s finances are in a mess, and currently, there is over €1 billion worth of debt at the club. While no Spanish bank is likely to bankrupt the club and demand their loans back, it does affect their ability to spend.

This is important as their original rumoured bid of £26 million is incredibly below what West Ham should be demanding for Soucek. The Hammers should be able to demand a fee of at least double that considering the length of contract Soucek has remaining at the London Stadium.

Another reason why Soucek may not end up at Barcelona is the team’s current state on the pitch. Ronald Koeman’s side are not the same force as they were under Pep Guardiola or Luis Henrique. Before a recent upturn in results, the club have struggled for most of the season, which is still on show in the Champions League as they face an early exit to PSG.

Soucek may not even be given the opportunity to play in the same side as Lionel Messi. The Argentine’s position at the club is on a knife-edge after constant rumours of him wanting to leave the club and failed moves away. If Soucek wants to share the pitch with Messi, he may have the same chances of sticking with West Ham and Messi signing for Manchester City.
