West Ham Loan A Route To Rebuilding Bridges
West Ham loaned cult-hero Winston Reid to Brentford on deadline day, and the move could help mend burnt bridges. The Hammers and the Bees had a falling out over the deal of Said Benrahma, with many assuming that the clubs would find it hard to do future business.
The East London side angered Brentford during negotiations for Benrahma as they wanted to change the deal multiple times. Originally Benrahma was set to make a permanent switch to West Ham before the deal became a loan with an obligation to buy.
Now Reid has joined the Championship outfit on loan the clubs should be able to do business again. This would be a massive bonus for the Hammers who have been reportedly interested in many of their players.
West Ham have drastically weakened their squad during the transfer window, but at least some good could come from one deal.
Bretford stars like Rico Henry, Josh Dasilva and Ivan Toney have all been linked to West Ham at different times over the past year. With the relationship between the two clubs on the rocks, it seemed that David Moyes would have to look elsewhere.
With bridges being rebuilt it could see the Premier League highflyers start to plan some summer transfer business with Brentford. The Hammers will certainly be in the market for a new striker, left-back and central midfielder. The three positions that the named players all occupy.
There is expected to be a budget of at least £30 million after player sales like Grady Diangana and Sebastien Haller. The chest has remained fairly untouched as the Hammers have been very quiet in the market over the last year. Moyes has even said that he does not want to sign players just to “appease people”.
Though this news will not help West Ham in the second half of the current season. The Hammers are a couple of injuries away from panic stations due to a serious lack of depth in the squad.
