West Ham have confirmed that Winston Reid has left the club on loan for the rest of the season. The New Zealander will be joining Brentford for the next six months. Reid has only just returned from his previous loan spell away from the club earlier in the month.

The 32-year-old before his return to West Ham spent the entirety of 2020 on loan in the MLS with Kansas City. Despite being one of the most experienced players in the squad, David Moyes cannot find a spot for the defender. The club have decided that it is better that Reid moves on to a club where he can challenge for first-team football.

Reid has fallen down the pecking order at the London Stadium for a few reasons. One reason is due to the form of Angelo Ogbonna and other now first-team defenders. The main reason, however, is persistent injuries. The Kiwi has not featured for the Hammers since 2018 when he went off injured during a 4-1 loss to Swansea City.

Winston Reid has left West Ham yet again after joining Championship side Brentford on loan until the end of the season.

There would be hope that the loan deal will put the Hammers back in the good books of Brentford. The club’s had a few disagreements in the past, especially over the deal of Said Benrahma. West Ham will hope that Reid’s move has rebuilt some bridges, especially as there are a number of Bees players that are of interest to the club.

West Ham have now had more players leave the club this month than those that have joined. Sebastien Haller, Robert Snodgrass and now Winston Reid have all left the club. The only incoming players have been Frederik Alves and Jesse Lingard. Lingard will be the only player that really effects the first team this season.

The club did, however, confirm the permanent signing of Said Benrahma who was on loan from Brentford for the first half of the season. Fans will be frustrated as it seems that there will be no new striker joining the club unless there is a late move by the club.
