Declan Rice to be Offered Mega Money Deal
West Ham managed to keep hold of star player Declan Rice during the last transfer window, despite interest from Chelsea.
Declan Rice joined the West Ham youth academy after he was released by Chelsea as a 14-year-old. Since becoming a Hammer, Rice has become a key member in the team and is arguably one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League.
Slaven Bilic gave Rice his debut on the last day of the 2016/17 season against Burnley. Since then the Englishman has forced his way into the West Ham side and become the first name on the team sheet.
Rice was rewarded for this progress in 2018 and was given a new contract that would see his wages vastly increase. There are still over three years left on that contract, but the current captain could be about to receive a bumper new deal.
After further progressing since his last contract, Rice has started to attract admirers from the League, most notably Chelsea. The Blues manager, Frank Lampard, wanted to sign Rice in the transfer window. After spending big on Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech there was not enough money left to approach Rice.
West Ham were adamant that they would not be selling Rice, although reports did emerge of an £80 million price tag. Now with the January window approaching, there appears to be a will of not wanting to go through it again.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the club could be set to offer Rice a one-year extension to his contract as well as a significant raise. Should Rice accept the offer, his wages could double from £60,000 p/w to an eye-watering £120,000 p/w. It is an offer that would show Rice how valued he is by the club, especially when considering two years ago he was only on £3,000 p/w.
This new salary would see Rice become the highest earner at the club and is probably justified. Rice was arguably the most important player in the club’s relegation battle last season and his now the acting captain while Mark Noble misses out.
