West Ham United have confirmed that Stuart Pearce has returned to the club as a coach. Pearce will be joining up with current staff, Kevin Nolan and Pat Nevin.

Two years after Pearce left West Ham he has now returned and will reunite with former boss David Moyes, who he worked under last time he was at the club. There was a worry that Pearce would not return as a coach after some ‘bad blood’ after he left the club previously.

Pearce claimed that his return could have happened eight months ago, only for it to be blocked by the club hierarchy. The Englishman said that the board had thought he had been a “bit critical” of them after he left the first time.

"“The owners felt I was a little bit critical of the regime when we left last time and put the block on it and that was that,”Pearce on Talksport"

It now seems that the two parties have moved on from the previous disagreements and will work together from now on. Pearce is now very excited to get started at the Hammers again. The fifty-eight-year-old said that he “believes in the strategy” of the club, and this has led to his return.

"I wouldn’t be back if I didn’t believe in the strategy the Club, Board and the manager have put in place, to take this great football club forwardPearce told West Ham United"

Pearce will be joining up with current coached Nevin and Nolan, both of whom have signed new contracts to stay at the club. Both had been linked with moves away, Nolan to Bolton and Nevin to Bristol City, but both will remain at West Ham.

David Moyes is thrilled to have his former work colleague back working with him. The Scot believes he is building an excellent coaching staff who will all work well together.

"“I’m really pleased to welcome Stuart back to West Ham United. He did a fantastic job for me in our first spell at the Club together. Stuart is a highly-respected figure throughout the game, who will bring another dimension to the coaching set-up here.“I believe he will complement Kevin and Paul really well – both of whom have been brilliant support for me alongside Alan Irvine of course – and will help us get the very best out of the players.“He will start immediately and I’ve no doubt he will be a great asset to us on the training pitch and in the dressing room next season.” Moyes told West Ham United"

Pearce spent some of his playing career at Upton Park and was very much a fan favourite. Known as ‘Psycho’ by fans, Pearce endeared himself to fans with his tough tackling and was crowned Hammer of the Year in 2000.
