As the title would convey, West Ham United are a month into the 2019/20 campaign and have 7 points to show for it. We take a look at some of the biggest changes so far this season that have stood out the most so far.

For starters, West Ham has 7 points after the first month of the season. Let me say that again, West Have has started off in the right direction and aren’t stuck playing catchup after the month of August like they have in the past. More than that, they have looked well doing it.

After the season opener against league champions Manchester City where we saw the Hammers get routed 5-0, many had doubts that the boys in claret and blue might be starting slow again. But after a draw to Brighton away, a win at Watford, and an all-around team victory yesterday against Norwich, this looks to be the complete opposite.

Pellegrini has the boys playing well and winning the matches that they should be winning. Long are the days of us seeing West Ham play down to lesser opponents, so far anyway. With the majority of the starting squad still intact from last season, besides Haller and Fornals, what has been the difference?

Firstly, they are keeping the play alive and finishing it. What I mean by keeping it alive, is we are seeing the midfield play smart accurate passes up and around the pitch more often and not seeing them hold possession on defense and pass back to the keeper like last season.

Also, they are finishing each and every play. Last season we saw too many times that the ball would get away from an attacker and they would give up. The addition of Haller had changed that and it seems to have flowed over to other players, Anderson and Lanzini to be exact. In every match so far you would be hard-pressed to find more than once or twice a match where West Ham has just given up on the play.

Finally, no player has been more important than the team. It can sometimes be a foreign concept that your star players are bigger than the club. So far West Ham United, that is not the case. The clubs last two record signings, Haller and Anderson, have at times showed up more on defense than on offense. It brings back the old motto of the club that no man is more important than the club, especially at West Ham.

I know that the EPL season is a long and grueling one especially when more cups games start to come into play and the weather turns, however, if Pellegrini can keep pushing this team this direction and the players, in turn, keep playing this way, we could be in for an interesting season in East London.
