The West Ham world is waiting around on pins and needles to see when Marko Arnautovic will leave, when will Maxi Gomez or anyone else be brought in, and who will be our number 2? We look at the latter of these questions.

What if I told you that what West Ham was looking for, is right in front of them? I’ve been wrong before, but I’m not wrong on this. When you look at how West Ham is growing around the attacking side of things, it’s hard not to think that they could all set up Chicharito around the box when he is in.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

The fox in the box quietly tallied up 8 goals and 3 assists in all competitions last season. If you go back and look at those games too, it was when the Hammers were passing it well up the field and getting the ball in the right areas at the correct times and Chicha was able to send it home. He has expressed his desire to play elsewhere but has also expressed that he is under contract and wants to push the Irons to Europe.

I am ok with his intentions, even if it was expressed in a weird way because it wasn’t done out of rude, selfish intentions. With Marko basically out of the door and both Perez and Carroll departed, all that’s left is Hugill, Silva, and Chicharito. Besides Chicha, the other two need to grow if they want a chance at all.

Basically, for Pellegrini and West Ham come down to this if Maxi comes to us, then Chicha needs to stay as the number two forward. If we don’t get Maxi and we get the likes of any of the 5 to 10 links, then he and Chicharito will be battling it out for first and second.

dark. Next. Could Winston Reid be key to a West Ham push this season?

West Ham does most likely need at least two more forwards before the season starts. However, we must not discredit Chicharito at all. With the new additions of Fornals and basically Yarmolenko, and a healthy Lanzini back, the table can easily be set for Chicha in the box.
