Greek defender should be high on West Ham’s wanted list
West Ham should make an honest effort to sign Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos has just completed a transfer to Hamburger SV but crazier things have happened in football and the Greek defender could be a massive help to the Hammers. The defense at West Ham this season could perhaps be best described nicely as poor and if we’re not editing truly God awful.
Papadopoulos has been one of the better defenders in the Bundesliga for several years. He’s a tenacious player who does wonderfully in the tackle and would add some much needed bite to the Hammers back line. He has had some trouble with roughness in Germany but that is one of the things that is wonderful about the Premier League. He’d be celebrated and praised for the very things he is bashed for in Germany.

A move worth making?
It would be nice to see the board making this quality of signing more often. A full Greek international Kyriakos Papadopoulos has made 25 appearances for the Greek national team. He’s known for being a very hard worker and a fire brand defender. West Ham I have remarked on many occasions seem to really lack that extra bite in the tackle and person who inspires fear on the field.
Papadopoulos is good enough with his feet that he often deputizes in a defensive midfield role and could easily help the side with their ability to build from the back. He just transferred to Hamburger SV for 6.5 million euros and a bid of 10-12 million pounds would be too good a piece of business for the German club to turn down.
If West Ham add Kyriakos Papadopoulos to the back line the team will see an immediate improvement echo through the rest of the side. He’s hard as nails and a leader on the field. It’s the sort of thing that West Ham need to be doing. They’ve always had a hard nose in the team and yet this current squad is distinctly absent of one of those characters. A fighter, a real bruiser, a leader by character who can get the fans out of their seat and feeling proud that someone else it out there fighting for them the way they would if they had the shirt on their backs.

It’s the sort of signing that West Ham need to be making.
