It was a great win for West Ham last night, over local rivals Tottenham. And the fans were not shy on social media.

There weren’t many non-West Ham fans who predicted a home win on Friday night. However the players stuck to the gameplan well and overcame an opposition in form. In terms of big opposition, it was the first win for the Hammers against a side in the top 8 all season.

And it was a big deal in terms of home wins. All season fans from all sides have said the stadium can seem lifeless. However last night it was anything but. The fans were electric and the players lifted themselves in response to effectively end Spurs’ run at the Premier League title.

The Fans celebrate

You can’t beat a win over your rivals. Obviously Spurs are still on for a much more successful season, but to win and stop a rival getting close to the title is exceptionally sweet. I would have liked to share more of the tweets, but there was a case of choice language in many of the more celebratory tweets!

Ex Players Celebrate

Of course, the big games bring out everyone, and ex players were also celebrating on social media. Everyone knew that it was a big game for the club in the current situation. But also how good a win it actually was on the pitch.

And the next one is especially special, considering he’s been on both sides of the derby…

Special Player mentions

And whilst obviously everyone was happy that the team played well there are still some special mentions. Lanzini grabbed the goal that won the match, but his fellow countryman also grabbed plaudits…

If the Hammers can build on this then it will be an exceptionally important win. They have struggled to beat the big teams but now they have, and at home. With only a few games left it would be good to take this into the summer, and attract some new players.

Suddenly the next season seems brighter and more full of hope. However the club cannot rest on its laurels but push on. With some tricky fixtures left the Happy Hammers will be hoping to cement a top half position in the table.
