West Ham play against Everton in the Premier League at the weekend in an important match.  The Hammers will be very interested in securing any sort of positive result to keep the momentum moving after recent victories.

This weekend West Ham return to premier league play against high flying Everton. Everton have quietly gone about the business as being one of the best run clubs in the Premier League (barring maybe Southampton) for several years.

The Toffees are in sixth place and have played wonderful football so far this season. Ronald Koeman does appear to be showing that he is exactly as good a manager as we always thought that he was and that his performance at Southampton was anything but lucky.

Thus, this will be an incredibly difficult match for West Ham to get anything out of. The bare minimum in this circumstance is a draw but West Ham can still hope for the three points.

Bilic’s System Change

Slaven Bilic appears to have unearthed gold with his switch to the 3-4-3 formation. The combination of Kouyate, Reid and Ogbanna finally seems to be making some progress. They will be tested to the max by Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku seems to have found that consistency that was always lacking to go alongside his potential. It will be a tough and physical battle for the full 90 minutes but if West Ham can mark him out of the match then there is a good chance at West Ham stealing a result here.

Moving forward the issue is still the midfield. Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang have only started to solidify the midfield but they still surrender far too much space. Their positioning and knowledge of each other whereabouts leaves a lot to be desired in every game. Noble for all his graft and courage doesn’t offer a lot of quality going forward with the ball. Unfortunately the case is almost the exact opposite with Obiang who though improving, lacks technically.

This match will rest entirely on whether or not the four across the midfield win control of the center of the park. If Noble, Obiang, Cresswell and Fernandes win that battle than this match could very well go West Ham’s way.

West Ham’s Forward Line

It is only a matter of time before Zaza gets on the scoresheet. I truly believe that. Once the floodgates open then things will be very different. The thing that will matter in this match is if West Ham can keep the ball on the floor. Zaza is a good finisher if allowed the opportunity to run onto the ball.

Too much of the time this season he has been fighting centre halves for headers. Against Everton he’ll lose those. Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka are just too damn fine of a combination to expect him to beat regularly. Quite frankly the two of them might be the best combination in the premier league (think about it for a second).

West Ham need to get a result here. A loss kills all the recent momentum dead in the water. Premier League points are at an absolute premium right now and West Ham simply need to climb the table. Slaven Bilic will do his absolute best to get a result here and even a draw would be decent.
