Because of the delay in announcing such a TV deal it came as no great surprise when Lady Brady took to twitter this morning to confirm that there will be no TV deal in place to show the Europa League match against NK Domzale.

Many fans are annoyed at the decision not to show it, as it is the first competitive game at the Olympic Stadium since it was made our new home and also a vital Europa League qualifier for West Ham.

However the board are adamant that the billed first game at the Olympic Stadium, the friendly against Juventus, is the first time that those outside the stadium will get to see it in full operational football mode. West Ham have spent a large amount of money advertising the game and tickets as such and they seem determined to keep it that way despite stiff fan opposition.

Many fans took to social media to vent their frustration

It sends a bad message that the profits and image of the club come before the fans, and this is exactly what West Ham fans did not want to be seeing when it came to playing the Olympic stadium after leaving their home at Upton Park.

I would be surprised if the board relented on such a matter because there are only a couple of days left, and it would be truly embarrassing if West Ham did not manage to get through the match in addition to the apparent fan snub.

Maybe fans would not have been so angry if West Ham were already 4 or 5-0 up in the tie but the fact remains that it will be a close game and with some emotional investment in the game it would have been a nice touch to show the match on TV.

We need to remember that the West Ham fanbase is not restricted to East London and that many overseas hammers rely on TV coverage to follow the club through Hell and High water.

Fans would be understanding that the Juventus match is the official curtain raiser for the new stadium, but to cut a large part of the West Ham family out of the first “Under The Lights” experience at the new stadium was a piece of poor judgement in my opinion.
