We are still in the early stages of the World Cup, but one player from Australia is already being linked with West Ham United, Nestory Irankunda.

According to Football Insider, "West Ham United are among a number of English clubs keeping tabs on the performances of Watford star Nestory Irankunda this summer."

Irankunda scored Australia's opening goal as they produced one of the shocks of the tournament so far by defeating Turkiye 2-0. This puts the Socceroos in a great position to qualify from Group D, where they still have to play the USMNT and Paraguay.

It was not revealed which other teams are interested in Irankunda. However, if he continues to play as he did against Turkiye, then West Ham will face more competition for his services.

Who is Australia's Nestory Irankunda?

Irankunda could be a good fit for West Ham in the Championship next season, as he is experienced in the division. He has just spent a campaign with Watford, playing 40 Championship games, scoring four times, and making five assists.

The Hornets finished 16th in the Championship last season. Therefore, his return should be better for West Ham, which is a side that will be looking to secure automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

The Australian is predominantly a right-winger, but he can also play on the left and through the middle. This would make him particularly useful for Nuno Espirito Santo if Jarrod Bowen or Crysencio Summerville depart the club this summer.

Before playing for Watford, Irankunda came through the ranks at A-League side Adelaide United. His form for the Australian side earned him a move to Bayern Munich. However, he did not play for the Bundesliga side's first team. He was sent on loan to the Swiss side, Grasshopper, before making the permanent switch to Watford.
