West Ham United is in the bottom three at Christmas, which is never a good sign for a club looking to keep its Premier League status. The Hammers are five points off of Nottingham Forest, who occupy the place above them in the division.
Nuno Espirito Santo's side needs a miracle to prevent them from dropping down to the Championship. They desperately need recruits in January, particularly in bolstering their forward line.
Niclas Fullkrug is set to join AC Milan, which West Ham fans will believe to be the player failing upwards. The German has been appalling for the Hammers, and cannot seem to keep himself fit. They do have Callum Wilson, who has scored four goals in 14 Premier League games this season. However, he is yet to find the back of the net in any of his last five games in the division.
Recently, Nuno has had to play Jarrod Bown and Cysencio Summerville as makeshift center-forwards. The West Ham manager could raid one of his former clubs for a new striker. According to The Athletic, "West Ham United have expressed an interest in signing Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January."
Is Jorgen Strand Larsen the right fit for West Ham United?
West Ham are in a desperate situation, but signing Strand Larsen, who has scored just one Premier League goal this season, will not fill fans at the London Stadium with optimism. Yes, he is part of a very bad Wolves side, who have garnered just two points this campaign.
Playing for a better side could lead to Strand Larsen recreating his form from last season. During the 2024/25 campaign, the Norwegian scored 14 goals in 35 Premier League matches. Strand Larsen also had a good record with Celta Vigo in La Liga before his move to English soccer.
He remains an international with Norway, who has scored four goals in 24 games for his country. However, he lacks game time with his national team due to being directly up against Erling Haaland of Manchester City for a starting spot.
Strand Larsen should be willing to leave Wolves, who are all but relegated from the Premier League already. Joining West Ham will give him a slim chance of being part of a side that is in the top flight of English soccer next season.
The Hammers are also being linked with Artem Dovbyk of AS Roma. However, his record this season is almost as bad as Strand Larsen's. Dovbyk has scored two goals in the Serie A this season.
