The Middle East is becoming a popular destination for top European players in the final years of their careers. Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al-Nassr from Manchester United in 2023 was a catalyst for many players to move to the region.

A couple of former West Ham United players are already plying their trade in the Middle East. Said Benrahma is with Neom of the Saudi Pro League, whilst Ravel Morrison plays in the United Arab Emirates' second division for Arabian Falcons.

Now, two more former Hammers will also be playing their soccer in the Middle East. The BBC has reported that "Michail Antonio is set to sign a short-term deal with Qatar's Al‑Sailiya."

Remarkably, Antonio is to return to soccer, as he was involved in a horrific car accident that ended his West Ham career. He was linked with Charlton Athletic of the Championship. However, he does not have anything more to prove in English soccer. Therefore, a move to Qatar makes sense over a team at the wrong end of the English second division.

Antonio's former teammate, Kurt Zouma, will also be heading to the Middle East. The transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, posted on X: "Zouma, in advanced talks to join Al Wasl as free agent. Deal underway with Dubai side."

Zouma has already played in the Middle East, as he went on loan to the Saudi Arabian side Al-Orobah at the end of his time at West Ham. After leaving the Hammers, he briefly played for the Romanian side, CFR Cluj, but made just four appearances in total for them.

A big reason why these players will be heading to the Middle East is, of course, the finances. There will no doubt be more former Hammers heading to the area instead of a potential move to MLS to finish their careers.
