There has been speculation recently that Ligue 1 teams are interested in Mohamadou Kanté. They have now been revealed as Olympique Marseille and AS Monaco

Santi Aouna posted on X: "Several clubs, including OM and Monaco, have made inquiries about Mohamadou Kanté."

Aouna hints that more teams are interested in the former Paris FC midfielder. His ex-team could be an option as they have just finished 11th in their first season back in Ligue 1.

Kanté joined West Ham from Paris FC in 2024 and was sent straight back on loan to the French side. He played six times in Ligue 2 for the team from France's capital.

This season for the Hammers, he played 14 times in all competitions. He would want more game time, and this could come in the Championship. West Ham will likely sell Mateus Fernandes, and Tomáš Souček's future is also in doubt. Therefore, there could be a space in the Hammers' midfield for Kanté.

Mohamadou Kanté lacked game time at West Ham

English soccer's second tier is very physical, which Kanté, who is 6 ft 5, should be able to handle. However, he is only 20 and may want to return to France.

Marseille is one of the biggest clubs in France, and they will be in the Europa League next season after finishing fifth in Ligue 1. They have two former Hammers in their roster, Nayef Aguerd and Emerson. At the French club, Kanté would be competing with ex-Tottenham Hotspur player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg for a starting spot. Marseille is also one of the clubs reportedly interested in Crysencio Summerville, who is likely to leave West Ham this summer.

Monaco qualified for the Europa Conference League as they finished seventh in Ligue 1. They have a former West Ham player too, in Thilo Kehrer. Game time at Monaco could be difficult to come by, as the defensive midfield position is occupied by the club captain, Denis Zakaria. They also have Paul Pogba on their roster, but he was injured for much of last season.

As Kanté is so young, he needs to be at a club where he can play regularly and develop. If he feels that Nuno Espirito Santo will give him more minutes in the Championship, then he should stay at West Ham. A campaign in English soccer's second tier could be very good for the Frenchman. However, the temptation to return to France and play in Ligue 1 will also be tempting for Kanté.
