West Ham United and Swansea City were once established Premier League clubs. Therefore, all of their last five encounters took place in English football's top flight. Now, they are battling to get promoted from the Championship in the top-of-the-table clash this weekend.

Bizarrely, the 4-1 scoreline has happened three times in the last five games. West Ham lost heavily in the penultimate game at Upton Park. This was a devastating blow and would have been, for some fans, the last time they went to that stadium. Fortunately, West Ham did manage to win the final game at the Boleyn Ground 3-2 against Manchester United in dramatic style.
West Ham then enacted revenge on Swansea the following season as they beat them 4-1 on Boxing Day. Ayew was one of the goalscorers, and it was against his former club. The Ghanaian would spend just two years at West Ham before returning to the Swans. He is currently without a club after leaving the Dutch side NAC Breda earlier this year.
The Hammers then won their next two games against Swansea 1-0. A goal from Sakho and Kouyate was enough in each of those games. Kouyate has recently retired and revealed that he played throughout his career with a heart problem. Sakho retired in 2023 after a spell back in France with Nancy.
The last time West Ham met Swansea, the Welsh side were the victors. Ayew's brother, Jordan, scored one of the goals for the Swans. The Hammers' goal came from Antonio, who is now with Watford.
Reid suffered a knee injury in that game, which was his final match for West Ham. He would only play for the Hammers' Under-21s after that incident. The New Zealander would also have loan spells at Sporting Kansas City and Brentford.
Notably, in the West Ham side that day, Declan Rice was playing centre-back. The full-backs were Pablo Zabaleta and Patrice Evra. Marco Arnautovic was up front with Javier Hernandez, and Mark Noble was still captaining the side.
David Moyes was in his first stint as West Ham manager. He is now back with Everton and doing well despite a difficult transfer window. Hammers fans did not like Moyes' style of play. However, they are now harking back to the days when the Scotsman led them to European glory.
