West Ham take their first win of the new Premier League season
- West Ham take their first win of the new Premier League season.
- Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen scored the goals as West Ham win 2-0.
After the opening day defeat against Aston Villa, West Ham prepared to face Crystal Palace in an away fixture at the Selhurst Park. Since Oliver Glasner became the manager of Crystal Palace last season, they have been one of the most improved teams in the Premier League. Although Palace had sold star players like Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen, this was a big match for Julen Lopetegui's side who had faced a 3-1 defeat against Palace in the Sunshine State Tour match earlier this month.
Last week, new signing Niclas Fullkrug expressed his thoughts on coming as a second half substitute in the first match. Further, Michail Antonio started the Aston Villa match but his unconvincing performance highlighted that Lopetegui should start Fullkrug at the centre forward position. However the manager Julen Lopetegui, started Antonio again in this away match.

Moreover, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jean-Clair Todibo again came on as a second half substitute. In the first half, Palace created some good chances, but Alphonse Areola made some great saves to keep the scoreline at 0-0 going into half time. In the second half, Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze hit the goal post, as well.
After around the hour mark, West Ham improved their build up play and started to create goal scoring chances. New signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka showed his blistering pace as he advanced forward from his own half to give a key pass to Jarrod Bowen, which deflected and came to Tomas Soucek who scored the opening goal to give the 1-0 lead to West Ham.
A few minutes later, Max Kilman won the possession and gave a brilliant pass to Jarrod Bowen who scored his first goal of the new season. After that, West Ham defended well to keep a clean sheet as well as the three points with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. Now, the Hammers should continue this winning momentum to perform well throughout the season.
