West Ham are currently working on to sign Joel Matip and John Egan on a free transfer to bolster their centre back position with great squad depth. While the summer transfer window has closed, West Ham could look to make a few more signings in the January transfer window. The Hammers have made nine new signings in this summer transfer window, but there are still some reinforcements needed in the squad.

In the midfield, West Ham have several quality players like Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek, Guido Rodriguez and Carlos Soler, however, the Hammers will need to make some more additions as two stars can leave the London Stadium next season. One of them is Edson Alvarez, who had been attracting transfer interest from several European clubs with Manchester United and Bayern Munich leading the race to secure the signature of the 26-year-old. Also, Soucek hasn't been performing well for West Ham since last season and was underwhelming in Czech Republic's 4-1 defeat against Georgia in the UEFA Nations League.

Therefore, West Ham will need to sign a midfielder in either January or at the end of this season to bolster their midfield ranks. Now, according to TeamTalk, the Hammers are interested in signing Championship side Swansea's talented midfielder Azeem Abdulai. Azeem is a 21-year-old playmaker who can play both as a box-to-box midfielder as well as a pivot alongside Edson Alvarez. The Scotland midfielder possesses brilliant pace and his passing ability and playmaking has made him a standout performer for Swansea this season.

At 21-years-old, Azeem's impressive performances in the Championship this season have led to several Premier League teams taking an interest in signing him in the upcoming seasons. Therefore, West Ham consider him a great candidate to replace Soucek and provide quality to the Hammers midfield for years to come. Hence, if Azeem Abdulai keeps performing well consistently, he will very well make his Scotland debut and can join a Premier League club in the January transfer window as well.
