Recently, West Ham were eliminated from the third round of the Carabao Cup after huge 5-1 away defeat against Liverpool. On top of that, the Hammers are yet to win their first match after the international break, thus the away fixture at Brentford in the sixth Premier League matchday was an important game for Julen Lopetegui's side to take a convincing win and get a good momentum for the upcoming games. Manager Julen Lopetegui gave Jean-Clair Todibo his first Premier League start and Michail Antonio returned to the starting lineup with Bowen on Kudus on either side of him in the front three.
Despite a much improved lineup, West Ham conceded inside the first minute of the game as the defence couldn't properly made a clearance and the ball came to Bryan Mbeumo, who found the back of the net with a brilliant finish. Similar to the Fulham and Chelsea matches, West Ham were behind again and had to find an equaliser to comeback into this match. The attack looked decent in the first half, however, the lack of goals is currently an issue for West Ham with Mohammed Kudus and Michail Antonio missing a few good chances to level the score before half-time.
Tomas Soucek scores equaliser as West Ham draw 1-1 with Brentford
In the beginning of the second half, Lopetegui brought in Cryscencio Summerville in place of Kudus to provide more pace and creativity for West Ham going forward. A few minutes later, the substitution worked out well with Summerville and Paqueta combining well with Bowen a few good passes and the ball came towards Soucek, who brought West Ham level at 1-1 with his second Premier League goal this season. With the score at 1-1, both West Ham and Brentford played more defensively and settled for a 1-1 draw.
A comeback win for West Ham in this away fixture would have given them a massive boost, however, the Hammers decided to take a point from this match. Overall, it was a much decent display from Julen Lopetegui's side but the struggles in attack needs to be resolved quickly as West Ham have scored only six goals in as many Premier League matches.
