West Ham's technical director Tim Steidten has played a huge role in the Hammers completing nine new signings in this transfer window. Despite not playing European football, West Ham have signed several elite players such as Niclas Fullkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well as Carlos Soler, and could add to that with Julen Lopetegui's side considering bringing in some players on a free transfer. Compared to the West Ham squad at the end of last season, this new team is a major upgrade with a great balance between quality and squad depth.

One of the key positions, which West Ham needed to improve in this transfer window was the left wing role. After the departures of Said Benrahma to Lyon and Pablo Fornals to Real Betis midway through the last season, the Hammers needed pace and creativity on the left flank of the attack. Maxwel Cornet possesses both pace as well as decent finishing, but has struggled to replicate his Burnley form at the London Stadium.

Thus, West Ham decided to sign Leeds United winger Cryscencio Summerville for a transfer fee of £25 million last month. Summerville's signing has bolstered the left wing position and he has shown his high potential in his limited playing time for Julen Lopetegui's side in the first four matches. Now, according to a report from The Athletic, West Ham technical director Tim Steidten motivated Summerville with an important advice while he was joining West Ham.

"Having travelled to Amsterdam on a private jet, Steidten challenged Summerville to become a success like Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez on the flight back to London. He outlined why being average would not be good enough and the need for the forward to develop into a top-tier signing."

This is a great advice for Summerville, who has taken a big step in his career after joining West Ham in the Premier League. Last season, when Tim Steidten became West Ham's technical director, he gave a masterclass after signing star players Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus for a combined transfer fee of £72 million. That proved to be a huge bargain as Alvarez and Kudus are two of the important players for the Hammers.

Similarly, the expectation for Summerville is to become one of the best wingers in the Premier League at West Ham in the coming seasons. After the international break, Summerville will aim to improve his performance and score his first Hammers goal as West Ham face Fulham in their next match.
