Julen Lopetegui's side are preparing for the upcoming Ipswich Town home match and the Hammers could face a familiar player in this fixture. The player is former West Ham midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who joined the Hammers at the beginning of this year on a six-month loan move from Premier League Champions Manchester City. Signed by former manager David Moyes to provide more squad depth at the defensive midfield position, Phillips largely struggled during his stay at West Ham and made only ten appearances for the Hammers.

Phillips didn't get much playing time at Manchester City previously, and thus, often looked slow on the ball with misplaced passes and underwhelming defending while playing for West Ham. At the end of the last season, Phillips returned to Manchester City as expected and then joined newly promoted side Ipswich Town on a season long loan move. Now, the 28-year-old will lineup for his new side to play West Ham in an away fixture at the London Stadium, where he would want to display a much improved performance in front of the Hammers.

Speaking about this match, Phillips opened up about his stay at West Ham, saying,

"When I went to West Ham I felt like there were quite a lot of eyes on me because it was my first loan move since going to City.

Obviously it didn’t work out well and I got quite a bit of stick."

Phillips highlighted his struggles at West Ham and is now adapting well at Ipswich Town as he is aiming to return to his best form for both club and country. This season, the box-to-box midfielder has made three appearances for Kieran McKenna’s side in the Premier League and gave an impressive display against Aston Villa in the recent home match, where Ipswich Town made a comeback to level the match at 2-2. Moreover, Phillips is gradually improving in his passing and defending with each game and the deep lying midfielder has become an integral part of Ipswich Town's midfield in the recent few weeks.
