Currently, West Ham are considering bringing in an another centre back to become a fourth choice central defender after Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos in the squad. Thus, the Hammers are involved in talks with former Liverpool defender Joel Matip as well as 31-year-old centre back John Egan to sign them on a free transfer. Now, another top quality central defender has emerged as a potential transfer target for West Ham.
According to Suddeutsche Zeitung, Bundesliga defending Champions Bayer Leverkusen's centre back Jonathan Tah has spoken about his contract situation, saying,

Tah has entered into the final year of his Leverkusen contract and he has confirmed that he doesn't want to stay at the Bundesliga Champions, thus, he can be available for a bargain price in the January transfer window. Last season, Tah was the best centre back in the Bundesliga and helped Leverkusen in winning their first Bundesliga title. In the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals last season, he gave an impressive performance against the Hammers as Leverkusen won 3-2 on aggregate and advanced to the semi final.
Several top European clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich have expressed their interest in signing Tah, who can be available on a free transfer as well next summer. Therefore, West Ham should sign any one of Joel Matip and John Egan on a free transfer in this transfer window and should try to bring the Germany international to the London Stadium next summer. Now, it remains to be seen whether West Ham decide to sign both Matip and Egan or wait for an another year to sign Jonathan Tah on a free transfer.
