Midway through the 2022/23 season, West Ham United found themselves at 16th spot in the Premier League, just above the relegation zone. In search of goals and more points to remain in the top flight, the then manager David Moyes recommended the club to sign Danny Ings from Aston Villa for £15M.

That was a clever business as Ings was coming off scoring fourteen goals during his stay at Villa. However, fast forward to July 2023, and the English striker has scored just four goals and provided two assists across 52 appearances for the club.

Ings' lack of goals in East London is because Moyes didn't give the forward a consistent run of games in the Starting XI. On top of that, the club signed Mohammed Kudus for £38M in August 2023, which further reduced the game time of the Englishman.
Out of his 52 appearances, Ings only started fifteen times for the Claret and Blue, mostly coming as a substitute in the last few minutes to see out the game.

Ings could start under Lopetegui

Things could now change for Ings, though. With David Moyes leaving West Ham after 262 games in charge at the club, Julen Lopetegui has become the new manager of the Hammers. Under a new manager, it will be a fresh start for the former Liverpool forward.

Speaking to West Ham's official website, Ings opened up on his difficulties at West Ham,

""I’ve found it quite difficult since I got here, but I’ve also loved every minute of it as we have got a really, really good group here"."

Asked about the change in play style, Ings remarked,

""I’ve really enjoyed the style he has implemented so far, but it is only early days and there is still a lot of time working together to come, but what I’ve seen so far has been fantastic"."

Moreover, Ings has left a message for the Hammers saying,

""I want to put the shirt on as much as I can, I want to help the team and I want to show the fans what I really can do and what I am capable of"."

With preseason going in full flow at the club, the Hammers look to bolster the squad with new signings to win titles and improve their Premier League performance in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
