Edson Alvarez joined the Hammers in a £34 million move from Eredivisie side Ajaz last year and has gone strength to strength since arriving at the London Stadium. In his debut season for West Ham, Alvarez made 31 appearances for the Hammers and quickly became a defensive mainstay in the midfield under former manager David Moyes. At the end of the last season, Alvarez picked up an injury in the Copa America 2024 and returned to full fitness at the start of this season.
The 26-year-old midfielder has started the last two Premier League matches and is gradually returning to his best form in order to play a key role for Julen Lopetegui's side this season. Recently, Alvarez revealed his favourite West Ham teammate while speaking to the club's official website, saying,

West Ham signed Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer last month, and initially there were rumours that he will replace Edson Alvarez at the club. The speculations further increased as top European teams such as Manchester United and Bayern Munich were huge admirers of the Mexico international and wanted to sign him to bolster their defensive midfield position. However, that wasn't the case and the former Ajax star stayed at West Ham and has been reunited with Guido Rodriguez, whom he previously played alongside at Club America.
Rodriguez also opened up about signing for West Ham and revealed that he spoke to Alvarez as well, and was looking forward to playing alongside him in the Premier League. In the first four league matches, Alvarez and Rodriguez have been brilliant in the middle of the park for West Ham and they help in advancing the ball forward after winning the possession. West Ham will face Chelsea in the next home fixture and will be looking to take their first home win after defeats against Aston Villa and Manchester City in the Premier League.
