West Ham are still active in the summer transfer window. Heading into this summer, it was widely documented that the Hammers would be active spenders, as they hoped to strengthen their squad after taking a step back last season in the Premier League. Now, they seem to be monitoring a Premier League star who will become a free agent next summer.
According to a report from TalkSport, Brentford's star striker Ivan Toney is the subject of interest from both West Ham and their London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. The 28-year-old is a proven performer in the Premier League with 36 goals and eleven assists for Brentford in three seasons in the English top flight.
Brentford star names London rivals as his priority ahead of West Ham
However, the Englishman who has entered the last year of his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, is said to prioritise a move to the Hammers' London rivals instead. A move to a big six club like Tottenham makes sense for Toney as Spurs are currently involved in negotiations with Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli to sell Brazilian striker Richarlison for £60 million this summer.
On top of that, Ange Postecoglou's side haven't really replaced club legend, Harry Kane since his £100 million Bayern Munich move in 2023. Thus, signing a striker like Ivan Toney would be a top signing for Spurs and Toney would directly slot into Tottenham's starting lineup.
The report also claims that Toney is even willing to run down his Brentford contract next year if a move to Tottenham doesn't work out this summer. This comes as a blow to the Hammers who are currently working to bring in a new striker before the start of the new season to strengthen their top six ambitions.
