Among the nine new signings West Ham made in this summer transfer window, the addition of former Manchester United fullback Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a key decision to improve the Hammers defence. Last season, West Ham missed out on finishing inside the top six in the Premier League due to an underwhelming defensive performance towards the end of the season. On top of that, Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Vladimir Coufal struggled with form and fitness, which highlighted the need for defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season.

Julen Lopetegui’s side brought in Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo as the new centre-backs and reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign 26-year-old rightback Aaron Wan-Bissaka. In three matches for West Ham, Wan-Bissaka has showcased his defensive solidity and has surprised several West Ham fans with his ball playing abilities as well. Coming as a second half substitute against Crystal Palace, Wan-Bissaka made an advancing run towards the right flank and created the chance on the opening goal in that match.

Therefore, it is remarkable that the Hammers managed to secure his services for a bargain transfer fee of £15 million in this transfer window. Now, Wan-Bissaka spoke about new West Ham manager, Julen Lopetegui and adapting to the Hammers squad, saying,

"It’s been pretty smooth. I spoke to the Head Coach before he was at West Ham. So, when I spoke to him again, I kind of knew what he was looking for, what he wanted from me, and after joining the team, it’s been an easy transition."

Signing Wan-Bissaka has been a shrewd transfer activity, and with his impressive recovery pace and brilliant defending, he will be a key player for West Ham this season. Meanwhile, Julen Lopetegui's side will face Fulham in the away fixture aiming to put a much improved performance after the 3-1 defeat against Manchester City before the international break.
