West Ham United signed Niclas Füllkrug from Borussia Dortmund for £27 million. However, the striker failed to live up to expectations at the London Stadium. He scored just three goals with two assists in 29 games for the club.

Whilst at West Ham, Füllkrug was troubled by Achilles and hamstring injuries. He spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan, but he scored just once in 20 games for the Serie A side. This season, he has returned to Werder Bremen for his third stint with the Bundesliga side.

Back in Germany, Füllkrug looks to be back in the best form of his career, scoring five goals in six games across all competitions this campaign. Whilst West Ham were drawing 1-1 with Queens Park Rangers, Füllkrug got a late equaliser for Werder in a 2-2 draw with Dortmund.

The result moved Werder up to seventh in the Bundesliga after five games. Füllkrug is on a straight loan deal at the club, but they will probably want to make it permanent. The 33-year-old is still contracted to the Hammers until 2028, so we could be in for another transfer saga next summer.

Other West Ham loanees are struggling for game time

Elsewhere, Aaron Wan-Bissaka came on at half-time for Aston Villa in a 2-2 draw with Brentford. He is competing with Matty Cash for the right-back position. However, Wan-Bissaka had to play left-back against the Bees after Matteo Ruggeri got injured.

Villa play Fenerbahce in the Champions League on Wednesday night, so Wan-Bissaka may need to fill in on the left for that game too. West Ham have most likely seen the last of Wan-Bissaka, as Villa have the obligation to buy him permanently.

Jean-Clair Todibo, who is on loan at RC Lens, was not in their squad that defeated Olympique Lyonnais at the weekend. He is still working his way back to match fitness and has represented the Ligue 1 side just twice so far this season. Lens plays Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, but it is unclear if Todibo will feature in this game.

Kaelan Casey was left on the bench for Stevenage as they defeated Wigan Athletic 1-0 in League One. The centre-back has so far only played in two EFL Trophy matches for Stevenage this campaign. This is his third loan spell away from West Ham, having previously spent time with Swansea City and Leyton Orient. However, the 21-year-old is currently not getting the game time he needs with Stevenage.
