Last year, West Ham won their first major trophy after 43 years as David Moyes's side lifted the UEFA Conference League title with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the final. Although West Ham aren't playing European football this season, the Hammers are aiming to return to playing the Europa League or the Conference League next season.
While the beginning of the season hasn't been great for West Ham, who have faced five league defeats after ten matches, the Hammers could still secure qualification to the Conference League by making a few good signings in the January transfer window. Currently, West Ham are massively underperforming in the attack, and the absence of Fullkrug and Kudus has been a significant blow to their squad.
Hammers considering a move to sign 25-year-old Conference League star
Therefore, the Hammers can consider bringing in a forward or a playmaker in the upcoming transfer window. While Botafogo striker Igor Jesus is a great center-forward option, West Ham are also interested in signing UEFA Conference League star Skov Olsen.
The 24-year-old right-winger plays for Belgian side Club Brugge and scored an impressive six goals in the previous Conference League campaign. Olsen's brilliant form led Club Brugge to reach the semifinals, where they were narrowly defeated by Fiorentina. This season, Olsen has replicated his prolific goalscoring form in the league by scoring five goals and providing an assist for the second-placed side.
The Denmark international possesses a great pace while advancing the ball forward, and his playmaking and dribbling are one of his biggest strengths. Moreover, Olsen also helps the team while defending and makes a few quick passes to start the build-up play immediately after winning the ball possession.
Thus, West Ham can improve their playmaking inside the final third with Olsen, who can make a lot of key passes for elite forwards such as Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus to score a lot of goals in every match. Club Brugge can demand around £25 million transfer fee for Olsen, and the Hammers could sign him in January if they manage to sell a few players.
Hence, it remains to be seen whether West Ham will decide to enter into negotiations with Club Brugge to sign Olsen in the January transfer window.
