West Ham United could do with signing a new striker this summer. The Hammers are targeting former Tottenham Hotspur forward Troy Parrott.
According to Sky Sports, "West Ham are interested in a move for AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott."
Parrott's campaign has already begun with Alkmaar, as he helped them defeat PSV Eindhoven to win the Johan Cruyff Shield. This is Dutch football's version of the Community Shield. AZ qualified for the cup match by winning the KNVB Cup last season.
The striker has become prolific in the Netherlands. In 96 matches for AZ, Parrott has scored 51 goals and provided 17 assists.
He was never given a chance at Tottenham, making just four senior appearances. Spurs loaned him out to Millwall, Ipswich Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Preston North End, and Excelsior Rotterdam. His form for Excelsior led to AZ signing him permanently.
Troy Parrott is yet to prove himself in English football
Parrott has experience in the Championship playing for Millwall and Preston. Therefore, he could be a very good option for Nuno Espirito Santo in the upcoming campaign. However, other top clubs are also interested in Parrott.
He has also been linked with Real Betis, Ajax, PSV, and Como. Playing top-flight football in La Liga or Serie A would appear to be a more favorable option than joining a Championship club. Whilst representing either of the two biggest clubs in the Netherlands would also be tempting. The forward has found his level in the Eredivisie, but has so far failed to make his mark in English soccer.
The Hammers recently let Callum Marshall join Luton Town and are expected to sell more of their forwards too before the end of the transfer window. Taty Castellanos and Pablo have both been linked with moves away. Also, Niclas Fullkrug, who just returned from his loan at AC Milan, appears to have no future at the London Stadium.
West Ham rounded off their pre-season with a 1-1 draw with the German side Magdeburg. Castellanos and Pablo both played in that game. Their competitive season starts this weekend with a game against Portsmouth in the EFL Cup. The transfer window closes on September 1, so the Hammers still have time to get business done.
