Michail Antonio is currently with Charlton Athletic as he looks to find a club since leaving West Ham United last year. He left the Hammers when his contract expired after suffering injuries in a car accident.
The BBC has reported that "Michail Antonio is in talks with Qatari club Al‑Sailiya as well as Championship side Charlton Athletic."
Many ex-West Ham players are now plying their trade in the Middle East. Said Benrahma is with the Saudi Pro League side, Neom. Whilst Ravel Morrison plays for the UAE Second Division team, Arabian Falcons.
Players heading to the Middle East are mainly going for the finances. Albeit the lifestyle of living in a warmer climate appeals to some. However, they often like to talk about growing the game in the region.
Should Michail Antonio join Charlton or Al-Sailiya?
It would be admirable for Antonio to go to Charlton, who are just above the relegation places in the Championship. English soccer's second tier is still considered one of the best divisions in the world. It is known for its physicality, so Antonio coming back to play in the league would be impressive.
Joining Charlton would offer him the chance to stay in London. He would also emulate the West Ham legend, Paolo Di Canio, in joining the Addicks after the Hammers. Nathan Jones' side has a couple of former West Ham players in their roster already, Reece Burke and Conor Coventry.
Joining Al‑Sailiya would be considered the easy option for Antonio. The Qatar Stars League is nowhere near the level of the Championship. Al-Sailiya are not even one of the top teams in the division, as they are ninth in a division that has 12 teams. The only notable player on their roster is former Everton defender Mason Holgate.
