Many West Ham United fans wanted Craig Bellamy to replace Nuno Espírito Santo. However, it is the right choice to appoint Scott Parker, who has three promotions to his name as a manager. Bellamy has only done this as Vincent Kompany's assistant at Burnley.
Bellamy walked away from talks to become Burnley's boss over the summer. Given that the Clarets are currently struggling in 22nd place in the Championship, it appears the right choice was for him to stick with Wales.
It would also have been difficult for Bellamy to quit Wales right now, given that he is preparing for their final Nations League fixtures of this year. West Ham have also not bought someone out of a job since they got Alan Pardew from Reading back in 2003.
Maybe one day we will see Bellamy in charge of West Ham. He has expressed his admiration for the club in podcasts. Also, he may feel he has unfinished business at the club, given that his time as a player at Upton Park was marred by injuries.
For now, Bellamy will be focused on Wales, and their first game in the upcoming international break is against Norway. His side managed to nullify Erling Haaland back in October, when they beat Norway 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium. However, the Norwegians will be out for revenge when they play in Oslo next Saturday.
Bellamy will not have to worry about Ronaldo
Then Wales face Portugal, who will be without Cristiano Ronaldo after he retired from international football. Some say that Portugal are better without Ronaldo, but there is no denying that the player would still have been a goalscoring threat to Bellamy's side.
A quiz question for the future would be who Ronaldo played his last international match against. That would be Wales, last September, as Bellamy's team were defeated 1-0. Ronaldo was substituted off in the 67th minute for Goncalo Ramos. He was then left on the bench as they beat Norway 2-1. Ronaldo then stormed out of the Portugal camp and missed their next two games.
This falling out with Jorge Jesus led to Ronaldo's abrupt retirement. Rumours suggested Jesus still planned to include the player for this international break. However, because Jesus had not apologised to Ronaldo, the Al-Nassr forward could not see himself playing for the manager again.
The Portuguese Football Federation has hinted that Ronaldo might be given a farewell match. Lionel Messi had one for Argentina. However, it is difficult to see Ronaldo having one more game for Portugal with Jesus in charge.
Wales may have a tougher task against Portugal, as we will see whether they are a more dynamic side without Ronaldo. It will still be a difficult assignment for Bellamy, whether they are facing Ronaldo or not. Bellamy's record with Wales is nine wins, six draws, and nine losses in 33 matches. His form for them has faded slightly since he was unbeaten in his first nine games. It is surely only a matter of time before he takes charge of a club side. West Ham fans should be happy with Parker, but Bellamy's time in the dugout at the London Stadium could come in the future.
