West Ham manager David Moyes has provided an update on the fitness of Nayef Aguerd, Craig Dawson and Maxwel Cornet – there is also positive news on Lucas Paqueta.

Aguerd is still waiting to make his competitive debut for the Hammers after sustaining an ankle injury during pre-season.

And he could make his first appearance in claret and blue in the upcoming cup matches in the Conference League and Carabao Cup.

West Ham boosted as David Moyes gives update on Nayef Aguerd and three other key players.

The centre-back is not ready for Prem action just yet but he is in contention for matches versus Silkeborg, FCSB and Blackburn.

Moyes said regarding the recovery of Aguerd, signed for £25million in the summer: “He’s not in contention for Sunday [against Manchester United], but we’re hoping to have him in the squad tomorrow [versus Silkeborg], one way or another.

“I want to give him time. He’s a good reader of the game – he’s quick and he’s good in the air. But because he’s not played any Premier League games, it’s difficult for us to give an overall judgement.

“I don’t think he’s ready for the league, but we’ll see for this European game.

“He’s keen, well liked in the group. We think he’s a really stylish footballer and we’ll hope he can help us going forward. He’ll go to play for Morocco at the World Cup.”

His return hands West Ham a major boost as he is expected to partner Kurt Zouma at the back allowing Thilo Kehrer to play at right-back, where most believe he is best.

An opening training session was held at Rush Green prior to tomorrow’s match and Aguerd and Paqueta were in the first-team setup.

The Brazilian midfielder has missed the last two games with a neck injury but he is likely to be back at the weekend for the trip to Old Trafford – the Silkeborg fixture is set to come to soon.

However, it is not all good news – Dawson and Cornet remain sidelined, Moyes confirmed that Ivorian winger has suffered a setback in his recovery.

The manager stated: “Cornet has had a small setback in training so he’s not available.”

Additionally, Dawson, who played on last season through injury, has been in and out of the side due to various fitness problems – he is not back fit yet.
