West Ham manager David Moyes has provided a key update on Gianluca Scamacca, Ben Johnson and Nayef Aguerd.

The Hammers boss was speaking to the media ahead of the Irons’ fixture against Wolves on the 1st October.

He also commented on West Ham legend Mark Noble becoming Sporting Director.

Firstly, on Scamacca, Moyes explained why he has not featured much in the league as all but one of his starts have been in the Conference League.

Moyes said: “He played [started] against Aston Villa but I think everyone forgets he had a really bad virus. Sometimes those things go a miss, I’m sure as long as he stays fit and healthy you will see a lot more of it.”

Perhaps this is a signal that Scamacca is beginning to win over the tough to impress Scot and we could see him get more of a chance soon.

Summer signing Aguerd is yet to feature in claret and blue after picking up an ankle injury during pre-season. The centre-back is thought to be ahead of schedule regarding his return and he could feature prior to the World Cup break. If not he could play for his nation Morocco in Qatar.

Moyes revealed: “Aguerd is doing a little bit on the grass but still a bit off.”

The manager also updated supporters on Johnson’s fitness. The versatile defender was playing well prior to injury but he could be back this weekend for Wolves’ visit. Moyes stated “Johnson has done a week and a half of training.”

Other highlights from the press conference was what Moyes said on Noble’s new job: “I always wanted Noble to be a part of the club. We hope he will go onto be a great director. He’s only just had a bit of time out of being a player. I have been in touch with him in the last few days.
