West Ham are in talks with Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca, as reported by Sky Sports.
There hasn’t been an official bid for Scamacca from the Hammers just yet, but Sassuolo are asking for £42million, PSG are not willing to offer more for the 1.95m centre-forward and West Ham could swoop in.
PSG had previously offered £29million for the 23-year-old Italian that scored sixteen goals last season. Scamacca was the leading goalscorer for his respective club.
West Ham are preparing to bid for Gianluca Scamacca of Sassuolo but are aware it will be hard to convince him to join the Hammers.
West Ham could test the waters with a verbal opening bid of £33million but the club know that the player may not be keen on a move with bigger clubs interested.
Scamacca joined Sassuolo in 2017 and has been loaned out four times. His most recent loan spell in the 2019/20 season was at Genoa, he scored eight goals in 26 appearances.
This was his first full season with his parent club. He started 25 of the 36 matches for Sassuolo.
The 21/22 season was a breakout year for him, and he earned a call-up to the Italian national side.
What type of player is Scamacca? He height is noticeable but he is not your conventional target man. He can of course win aerial duels but he is very mobile and can hold up the ball well. He has an excellent finishing ability and likes to shoot regularly. He can drop in, pick up the ball, hold it and wait for the outside runs and distribute with a good range of passing.
West Ham are looking to give Michail Antonio some help and competition for the striker role with the likes of Armando Broja linked to the club as well.
Broja looks set to join up with Chelsea for their pre-season tour of USA despite West Ham ready to make more concrete moves for the 20-year-old in the coming days.
If West Ham can get this deal done or the one for Scamacca, it’s going to be a great addition for the Hammers.
