Nayef Aguerd NO SHOW at training ground but deal still ON
By Alex Smith
West Ham transfer target Nayef Aguerd did not turn up at the club’s training ground as he was expected to today (16th June).
The Rennes centre-back has been heavily linked with a move to the Hammers and the deal appeared to be completed but there has been late interest from Newcastle.
West Ham’s media team was waiting for his arrival at Rush Green but he never arrived, however, the player is thought to be in London and the deal is still expected to be on.
Nayef Aguerd failed to arrive at the West Ham training ground ahead of his expected move to the club however the club remain confident a deal will happen.
According to @ExWHUemployee, the deal could now be in doubt but the club’s representatives are doing their best to make sure the 26-year-old’s transfer does happen.
He continued to say that the that the medical has been delayed until tomorrow and Saturday as Aguerd arrived in London late.
However, Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has reported that Aguerd is in London and will complete his move to West Ham within the next 24 hours.
It is thought that Aguerd may have done the first part of his medical in perhaps Paris, where Kurt Zouma did his medical, due to the player playing in France.
He is then expected to put the finishing touches to the move in England.
There is a chance that both of these reports are correct. It is unlikely that any medical would take place at the training centre, therefore, Aguerd’s expected arrival there could be for the announcement only.
A delay could have occurred at some point in final negotiations or in his health assessment leading to the Moroccan not turning up.
West Ham remain confident that despite this bump in the road the deal will still go through in the coming days.
It would be awful if West Ham fail to secure the signing of Aguerd as he is believed to be David Moyes’ first choice centre-back target this summer.
He is left-footed, exceptional in the air on top of him being one of the best passers in Ligue 1.
We scouted Aguerd on our site and you can read why he’d be a great signing HERE.
