The ins and outs of West Ham’s summer transfer window
Now that we all have had a chance to sleep and recouperate from a wild and crazy deadline day, there are lots of good, new signings to unwrap. From loans to perminant moves, West Ham have loads of new talent coming in.
West Ham’s Loans with options
Alphonse Areola
West Ham added the world-cup winning keeper earlier in the window, and made a huge splash with it. The option is a loan to buy, but with Fabiaski aging, Areola might be seeing the pitch sooner than later.
Alex Kral
Alex Kral’s name came up around the same time as the Euro’s. He is a highly sought after central midfielder, and could be a shoe-in to replace Noble after this season. His deal is also a loan to buy and hopefully this one works out well for everyone!
Academy of Football additions
Thierry Nevers
The 19-year-old comes from Reading, and is poised for big things. He signed a professional deal with the Hammers until 2023, and has already made strides playing for the U23s.
Armstrong Oko-Flex
Oko-Flex came from the Scotish Premeriship side Celtic. At 19-year-old, he brings pace and strength to the attacking side. He has signed until 2023, and looked good in preseason and so far for the U23s.
Pierre Ekwah Elimby
In a theme with these Academy signings, Elimby is also 19-years-old. He signed a deal that takes him out till 2024, coming from Chelsea. More of a central midfielder, he will be one to watch in the future after he matures some with the U23s.
Brian Kinnear
In an attempt to always find the next, best goalkeeper, the Hammers brought in Brian Kinnear. The U21 Scottish international caught the eye of Moyes and had an exceptional tryout, getting the ink to paper and signed until the end of 2022.
New Stars
Nikola Vlasic
Just as Areola was the initial splash, Nikola Vlasic was the cherry on top of the cake! The Croatian international comes to West Ham after an amazing Euro campaign, and recently becoming the Russian leagues footballer of the year. He has some work to do, but will be adding support very, very soon to the Hammers attack.
Kurt Zouma
If anything looked bad so far this season, it was the defense. That is exactly what Kurt Zuma was brought in to do. Solidify the defense for years and years to come. After the international break, expect to see him make his debut against Southampton.
It has taken sometime for David Moyes to get his players, especially after the Manuel Pellegrini experiment, but he is there. Letting Coventry and Odubeku go out on loan might make you scratch your heads, but this has been an exceptional window for the club and the Gaffer. We give it an 8/10 score, and cannot wait to see what the year brings.
