West Ham and Crystal Palace head into the break, each grabbing a point. The Hammers showed heart, but it didn’t help with skill Saturday afternoon.
Saturday started a lot as Monday did. West Ham started slow yet methodical and then amazingly went on top. However, the wheels fell off defensively once the second half started, and the bad passing crept up with David Moyes’ lads. Here is how The Green Street Hammers graded West Ham’s 2-2 draw against The Eagles.
Fabianski
Player Grade: 6
A practical observer for the first half, with his defense preventing almost everything from coming his way. Lukasz Fabianski could have done better with Conor Gallagher‘s first equalizer, but there was nothing he could do with the second.
Coufal
Player Grade: 7
Vladimir Coufal hardly did a thing wrong all match. He was excellent in possession, and as always, was a thorn in Zaha’s side. Without him, the Hammers may have lost this one.
Dawson
Player Grade: 4
As usual, Craig Dawson was strong in the air, especially since he was tasked with Benteke. However, Gallagher made him look a fool on both goals. With the arrival of Zouma, Dawson may feel it.
Ogbonna
Player Grade: 6
Angelo Ogbonna was also tasked with handling Christian Benteke, and he matched him strength for strength all match. He was calm in possession and with his feet.
Player Grades for West Ham v Crystal Palace: Heart, but not enough
Cresswell
Player Grade: 7
We honestly didn’t see Aaron Cresswell get as far forward as we usually do. He was pestered a lot with Ayew, but he handled that well. In a rare moment forward, he notched another assist on the year.

Rice
Player Grade: 5
By the end of the match, Declan Rice finally regained his composure. In a bad match for him, which is uncanny, it showed just how vital he is to everything around West Ham United.
Soucek
Player Grade: 6
Just like Rice, Tomas Soucek was quiet. This might have been the first time since his arrival that they both didn’t look the part. He was solid on both ends but couldn’t find a spark.
Fornals (subbed off in the 87th minute)
Player Grade: 8
The Spanish international got his second goal in two matches, with a fantastic one-two with Miggy. An excellent all-around performance from Pablo Fornals quietly makes him a weekly MOTM contender.
Player Grades for West Ham v Crystal Palace: Heart, but not enough
Bowen (subbed off in the 79th minute)
Player Grade: 7
Jarrod Bowen had an amazing start, running at the defense freely and always open for the ball. He once again played well on the defending side of things, helping Coufal with Zaha.
Benrahma
Player Grade: 7
In what we can call his first full season with the club, Said Benrahma is coming into his own. His setup pass led to the first goal, and he is filling in well as the club’s new No.10.
Antonio
Player Grade: 8
Michail Antonio started Saturday just like he did on Monday, full of confidence. Miggy opened up his Palace account with a lovely assist to Fornals before taking one for himself later on. Power and skill are the new norms for our No.9.
Substitutes
Lanzini (subbed in for Bowen)
Player Grade: 6
We saw very little out of Manuel Lanzini in this match, enough to say he was steady, but not enough to say anything else.
Yarmolenko (subbed in for Fornals)
Player Grade: N/A
We didn’t see enough out of Andriy Yarmolenko, even though he pushed his patented left-foot well into row Z.
And that, as they say, is that. West Ham failed to finish out their third weekend in a row with another victory, but they remain towards the top of the leaderboard going into the international break. When they come back, they will have a new CB, and hopefully, a few more new faces to keep the flame lit and moving in the right direction.
