Better late than never should be West Ham United’s motto. David Moyes finally gets his man, as the Hammers get the signature of Kurt Zouma.

In typical West Ham fashion, they have been striking out left and right on transfer deals as of late. As of last night, this deal seemed off, but oh how 24 hours can change the course of everything. This deal played out like a daytime TV drama through the course of last week, just waiting for the ball to be dropped.

ExWHUemployee first reported in the early embers of the week that the deal was still on and that Kurt Zouma would be completing his medical in Paris. From that point on, there was complete silence as the West Ham world stood waiting for something… anything… and then it happened.

Massive news was dropped around 3 pm UK time later that day, from Fabrizio Romano, that West Ham and Chelsea had agreed to a fee of €30m, and that Kurt Zouma had passed his medical. This process has been harder on Hammers fans than usual, but with Zouma coming to East London, David Moyes gets his choice, and the Hammers get the needed depth for the Europa League.

However, the week rolled one. Reports of he’s in, and then he’s out coming right and left at the week drew to a close. Then, after the Hammers draw to Crystal Palace, the deal finally came through. The club’s official accounts announced Zouma, finally getting the Frenchman until 2025.

The 26-year-old French international will not only bring his defensive skills to the LS, but he will also be turning West Ham into an even more dominant corner team. The Hammers have defenders aplenty that can easily head the ball in, and now they have another one, dare I say, a better one.

Last season, Zouma played in 24 EPL matches, scoring five times while in attack mode. Additionally, he won just shy of 90 aerial duels, completed over 91% of his passes, and had zero errors leading to the opposition’s goal. Last year, the Hammers had success with Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson, but Zouma’s numbers were even more successful.

Kurt Zouma now gives the Gaffer his first real selection drama of the 2021/22 campaign. Since the start of the season, Moyes seemingly had it easy as he and really everyone knew exactly who should start. Now, that changes things, and honestly, for the better. We at the GSH would like to welcome Kurt Zouma officially and cannot wait to see what he brings to East London.
