West Ham is one of very few teams in the Premier League who can accurately say they have two top goalkeepers at their disposal for any occasion.

The Hammers are in thin air when it comes to that statistic. West Ham should be mentioned with Manchester City and United, and Chelsea if you count Kepa as the EPL’s teams with two powerhouse goalkeepers. A feat that is certainly surprising to some.

After the fantastic piece of business by West Ham, they have locked up Alphonse Areola from PSG on loan for now, with hopes to keep him for the foreseeable future. With PSG’s golden pockets, Areola would never get the proper time of day in Paris. Now, in East London, he will certainly get to show off his talents and fight for the starting slot.

With West Ham’s intention to bring him on permanently at the end of the year, that leads us to the question of what is to become of Lukasz Fabianski? The talented Polish international had been a godsend between the sticks for the Hammers and has kept them up on more than one occasion. Sadly, he never gets labeled as a top PL keeper, but we all know the truth.

As much comfort as Fabs has brought since joining in 2018, his absence has brought heartache and that old feeling of fear for anyone else between the sticks. Injuries have plagued Fabianski over the past 18 months, and it might be time for a changing of the guard. When looking at comparing keepers, we’ve broken it down like this; distribution and shot-stopping, command and set-piece ability, and consistency and fitness.
