West Ham Makes Contact With Honduran International
Reports in Portugal have suggested that West Ham United has made contact with the agent of Boavista striker Alberth Elis. The player’s agent also confirmed the interest, with the Hammers rumored to be making an £8,500,000 bid for Elis this summer.
Elis, who has 45 caps for Honduras, first gained attention through his time at Houston Dynamo. He initially joined the club on loan from Monterrey in 2017 before the deal became permanent one season later.
The 25-year-old scored 34 goals in 88 games in the MLS, later moving to Portugal to sign for Boavista. Boavista has dealt with West Ham previously, given that it sold Gonçalo Cardoso to West Ham in 2019. Although he is not the most well-rounded forward, Elis uses his speed and acceleration to carry the ball long distances.
He also is a regular contributor to goals, having scored eight goals and recorded seven assists in 31 games last season (perfect for what West Ham needs). There is no guarantee that he will repeat these consistent statistics in the Premier League, but it is certainly a good impression of his playing character.
West Ham Makes Contact With Honduran International
Elis comes from a footballing family. His father played in the second tier of Honduran football, and his brother, Osman, plays professionally. Elis grew up idolizing former Inter Milan and Honduras international striker David Suazo, who scored over 100 goals in 12 years of playing football in Italy.
The admiration for Suazo led to Elis adopting the surname “La Panterita” (“Little Panther”), and he often puts on a Black Panther mask during goal celebrations. A striker from Boavista may not be a well-known name in England, but Hammers boss David Moyes has been known to find talented footballers in the unlikeliest of places.
Elis has shown several glimpses of talent on the pitch. After his agent confirmed that an approach was made, it seems that a move for this pacy forward could well materialize for the Hammers going into the upcoming campaign.
