Our sister site, 90min, has reported that West Ham has made an inquiry for Switzerland and Borussia Monchengladbach forward Breel Embolo.
It’s no secret; West Ham is in need of a new center forward. Since the Hammers sold Sebastien Haller last winter, they have been solely relying on Michail Antonino to do the job. With Antonio’s injury record, it’s been a risky move, but the Hammer’s luck indeed runs out at some point.
West Ham’s Gaffer, David Moyes, has money to spend on a new center forward, which 90min believes is around the £30m mark, but is Embolo the right fit? The Hammers have a plethora of needs, center forward being one of them, but it appears that he would take up about half of that mark if the transfer happens.
Since moving to the Bundesliga in 2016/17, Breel Embolo hasn’t necessarily been prolific, but he has been a force nonetheless. Between Monchengladbach and FC Schalke, he has played in 107 matches, scoring 23 times, and assisting 22 times. What sets Embolo apart from others is his intense pace and stability.
West Ham reportedly linked with a “turbocharged” forward
Just recently, in the Euro’s, it was evident just how intense this 24-year-old is. When he departed with an injury, the squad looked completely different and almost non-existent. He lacks in size compared to Antonio, but the two could play well off of each other.
Just like West Ham’s current center forward, Embolo is a terror to the opposition’s defense. If the Hammers had two of the same type of specimen, it would totally impact the Hammers in the future late into a match.
Breel Embolo could be a fascinating asset to the club, but how true this rumor is remains to be seen. There are so many potential transfers out there, but if David Moyes and Co want to get the team gelling quickly, this move needs to happen soon. Unit cohesion was what drove West Ham last season, and they will want to get back to that as quickly as possible.
