With the West Ham United schedule being released on Wednesday, now it’s time to look at the season to come. Here are three away days that cannot be missed.

West Ham starts their 2021/22 campaign away at Newcastle United, but that one didn’t make the list. As far as away days go, Newcastle is always a good one, but this list only has room for three. There are a lot of honorable mentions that we will get to at the end, but for now, let’s dig in!

Number 3: @ Brentford

Besides a few friendlies here and there, the Hammers haven’t faced off against the Bees since the 1992/92 season playing each other in Division One. Besides those two home and away days, the two haven’t seen each other since the ’50s and the post-WWII era. The W-D-L record for West Ham against Brentford is 22-11-15, but Thomas Frank will certainly have his boys ready.

This season will be the Bee’s first time in the top flight in 74 years. The home fixture in this matchup will be played in October, but this away fixture happens on the 9th of April, during a key stretch in the season. The Bee’s also have a new home to show off that will make the 28 km trip even more exciting. Not a marquee matchup, but historic and new is why this one makes the list.

Numer 2: @ Tottenham

You cant make a top away days list and not throw in Spurs, can you? Absolutely not! The short trip to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium is always an enjoyable one, and it’s always a great time when the Hammers can ruin their day. Although any matchup there will be hard to beat from when they embarrassed the Spurs on their ribbon cutting day, March 19th of 2022 could be a new favorite.

By this time, both clubs will have played 29 EPL matches with only nine to go. What gives this one all the potential to be the best Spurs away day yet, is because it will be a first of lasts. Mark Noble will enter the arena for the last time in Tottenham as a player, and you know his thoughts on the hated Spurs. Always spectacular, but this season will add extra flair and heart.

Number 1: @ Brighton & Hove Albion

There’s probably no surprise here, as this matchup will be the last one of the season and Nobles last ever as a Hammer. This matchup will come on the heels of his final match in front of his home, and emotions will be at an all-time high. Mr. West Ham himself is finally going to be saying goodbye after 17 seasons with his boyhood club.

Honestly, it’s hard to tell home many matches he will actually get this year, but you know he will be up and ready for this one! David Moyes would have to fight off an entire fanbase not to let him play all 90 minutes or at least feature in a majority of the minutes. On the 22nd of May, 2022, mark your calendars and be there if you can for this final showing of a once-in-a-lifetime icon.

Honorable Mentions

Anytime the Irons can travel in a London Derby is always a fun day out. Arsenal, Chelsea, or Palace, it doesn’t matter, and with the farewell tour going on, it’ll surely add to the excitement. Also, West Ham is in Europe, and you know there will be amazing venues to attend during the upcoming season, but for now, these are your top three “must attend” matchups.
